German Chancellor Olaf Scholz supported the decision during a local election campaign event near Leipzig. He asserted, “This is a clear sign that those who commit crimes cannot count on us not deporting them, but that we will look for ways to do so.”

Julia Duchrow, Secretary General of Amnesty International Germany, criticised the deportations as politically motivated. She argued that Afghanistan is still unsafe and that the deportations violate international law.
